Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
Allergic Fungal Sinusitis

This young man has a history of allergic fungal sinusitis.  Despite medical treatment including oral steroids (prednisone), his polyps continued to grow and his symptoms (facial pressure, nasal obstruction, nasal discharge) worsened over the months preceding surgery.  The video shows removal of some nasal polyps from the left nasal cavity as well as extraction of allergic mucin (sticky green/brown  material which forms in the sinuses in response to a fungal allergy) from the right side.  Sinus rinses, a post-operative course of oral steroids and occasional cleaning of the sinuses in the office will be important in this patient's recovery.
